Thato Ramaili Officially Appointed CEO Of PPRA
Thato Ramili, an accomplished figure in the South African real estate industry and owner of Loara Realty, embarked on a momentous journey just over a year ago. Initially a member of the PPRA board, she took on the challenge of serving as the acting CEO of the Regulator.

After throwing her hat in the ring towards the end of last year, she was appointed CEO on Thursday, March 14th, marking a significant turning point for the organization.

The PPRA, the successor of the former EAAB, assumed its responsibilities in 2022 amidst tumultuous circumstances. The previous CEO, Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi, faced a myriad of charges, including irregular appointments, contravention of pension fund legislation, and financial misconduct. Her dismissal in December of that year left the organization in a state of disarray. Deli Nkambule, the acting CEO who followed, instigated a shift from confrontations to consultations and cooperation, yet the Regulator grappled with corruption, staffing issues, inefficiencies, and industry frustration. It was against this backdrop that Ramaili assumed leadership in 2023.

Despite facing challenges, including a strike during annual wage negotiations that led to delays in service delivery, Ramaili's tenure has seen remarkable progress. The FFC backlog has significantly reduced, undesirable business practices have been scrutinized, and overall operational efficiency has improved under her leadership. Noteworthy projects, such as the Transformation Property Partnership with Eskom, the Property Sector Charter Council, and Claremart, as well as an initiative with Rawson Property Group, have been launched, reflecting the commitment and dedication of the PPRA team.

Looking ahead, Ramaili expressed her enthusiasm and honor in leading the PPRA into the future. Emphasizing innovation, growth, and stakeholder priority, she reaffirmed the organization's core mandate to accelerate transformation in the real estate sector. Notably, she expressed her delight in the private sector's collaboration, recognizing that the mammoth task of transformation will not be tackled alone. This signals a promising trajectory for the South African real estate market under her leadership.
